Into the Void is a journey through deep space, exploring the intricacies of the new Richard Mille RM 55-01 and orbiting its finely orchestrated architecture. This marks a monumental evolution of the Still Life format of films, which we premiered for the brand several years ago. As usual, our main aim is to reveal every technical nuance of these horological masterpieces, but this time we have also added an extra layer of storytelling to highlight key messaging. The result, in our opinion, is out of this world…

For this Still Life film, we set out on a creative mission using the space between the components of the RM 55-01 watch as an experimental launch pad.

By manipulating scale and perspective, we transformed this void into a zero-gravity playground, where we could warp proportions and explore new visual dimensions.

Rather than constructing a literal universe, with all its technical black holes (think depth of field, lighting, and spatial constraints), we instead charted a course through a metaphorical cosmos.

Our inspiration was 2001: A Space Odyssey, a classic film that, from today’s vantage point, feels like a bit of cinematic tinkering. It’s not faithful to scientific reality, but the gravitational pull of its magic still holds strong.

WE FLAME

Despite the interstellar narrative, our approach was exactly the same as any usual Still Life film: namely capturing something tangible on camera, requiring minimal post-production, yet maintaining a premium look. This shoot was truly a blast, as we deployed various props to simulate our environment.

Among them was a 3D printed RM 55-01 model, scaled up and measuring 40cm, which let us literally steer the camera through the mechanics of the watch, as if embarking on a cosmic journey through its cosmic architecture.
